What We Do

Assistance League of Greater Collin County is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian charitable organization whose goal is assisting people of our community. We are the 103rd chapter of Assistance League^®, which has 119 chapters and over 24,000 members nationally. Our philanthropic programs touch the lives of the young, the elderly, the hospitalized and the grieving. All members volunteer their time to perform our philanthropic and fundraising work. We have no paid staff.

History

Founded in 1996 as a guild, Assistance League of Collin County started with thirteen women. The first philanthropic program sponsored by the organization was Pass the Word at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano. In 1997, National Assistance League selected Operation School Bell^® as a national program and each chapter initiated the program in their community. Currently, Operation School Bell, our largest program, provides new clothes to elementary school children in Collin County schools. In 2007-2008 our organization provided over 1600 students with new clothes.

In 1997, the first Holiday Happening was held as a fundraiser to support all our philanthropies. Holiday Happening has become an annual event and is our most important fundraiser.

In October 1998, Assistance League of Greater Collin County was granted chapter status, and a chartering luncheon and celebration was held in February of 1999. The organization had completed the requirements to become the 103rd chapter of National Assistance League.

As additional programs have been added, we have touched more lives in our community. We presently have two different programs in area hospitals, we serve the elderly in community homes and we have three programs in the schools providing clothing, hygiene kits, reading and homework help, and library financial assistance. It is clear that we play an important role in Collin County. All of our members share a sense of pride in our achievements.
